Merseyside Network for Europe

Merseyside Network for Europe is the Sector Co-ordinator for the Voluntary Sector on Merseyside, and is part funded through Technical Assistance under the European Social Fund (ESF) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Merseyside Network for Europe exists to promote and support voluntary sector activity within European Community Programmes, including the Merseyside Objective One programme. It has three main areas of responsibility, Information, Representation and Strategy.

Jan Agger, Head of Training & Employment Services at Fusion21 has been invited to join Merseyside Network for Europe as a member of their board.

On Thursday 14th of October 2010 the European Youth Parliament United Kingdom launched its brand new outreach programme, entitled EurVoice. EurVoice, which took place in Liverpool Town Hall, proved to a great success and everyone involved in the event had a fantastic afternoon discussing the political issues of the day.

After a welcome speech delivered by Mike Leyland, the Chair of EYPUK, pupils discussed in groups political issues such as employment, the consequences of the cuts made by the current Government, immigration and the role of young people in the political process.

Following this, pupils had the opportunity to put questions to a panel consisting of Paul Brant (Deputy Leader of Liverpool City Council), Val Jones (Chief Executive of Social Enterprise North West and Chair of Merseyside Network for Europe), Jan Agger (Head of Training & Employment at Fusion 21) and Jake Morrison (Labour candidate for the 2011 Liverpool Local Elections).

Jan Agger said of the event, “The EurVoice was a fantastic opportunity to engage young people in political issues that will have an impact on their lives. It was extremely encouraging to observe the pupils taking part in the EurVoice and as a panel member I thoroughly enjoyed the experience”.
